Homestead-Miami Speedway is referred to as one of the most beautiful sports facilities in America. It is one of the most ideally located tracks in America, established 25 miles south of Miami International Airport, and looking out over a view of the Miami skyline to the Northeast. In November 1995, Miami Speedway opened in the care of Ralph Sanchez and H. Wayne Huizenga. Cars started their engines on the opening day to a sold out granstand. In 1997, after two seasons of races, the 1.5 mile oval underwent an $8.2 million reconstruction. This transformed the former quad-oval, and its "short-chutes" between the turns, into a continuous-turn oval. This provieded for a more competitive and exciting race venue.
