Phoenix International Raceway, recognized as the racing capital of the West, opened its gates in 1964. Since that time, it has earned a reputation as the "Desert Jewel".
International Speedway Corporation owns Phoenix International Raceway, a 100,000 seat 1-mile oval, previously owned and operated by Emmett "Buddy" Jobe, since 1985. Drivers have come to love the one mile paved oval with the unique bend in the backstretch. Today, Phoenix is truly a great place to race, for the drivers and especially the fans. It is known as the most celebrated and legendary racetrack in the West; Phoenix International Raceway carries on a tradition that is unmatched in the world of racing. The annual NASCAR weekends are two of the largest events in the whole state. In fact, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races are arguably the largest one-day sporting events in Arizona.
Phoenix is a great place to visit by everyone's standards because of its' growing tourism industry and wonderful hospitality.
